Christoph Hänsli: Die Konferenz der Dinge

Villa Renata, Basel

Overview
Die Konferenz der Dinge

Villa Renata, 24.10. - 12.12. 2020

Christoph Hänsli, ausgewählte Werke von 1994-2020
Kuratierung: Franziska Stern, Christoph Hänsli

Hänsli's work is a collection of fundamentally banal utensils that are a prerequisite for any everyday life based on a minimum of basic civilisational fixtures and fittings. It shows utensils, tools and food. Or even notepads and post-its. Hänsli's artistic work often has to do with language: In meticulous pictorial enumerations, lists and mnemonic techniques, the artist works with communication in the broadest sense of the word. However, the situations in Hänsli's works never show the users of all these objects. Hänsli's work therefore speaks of absence and memory. And yet his pictures - often underpinned by subtle, laconic humour - are extremely lively.

The compilation and placement of Hänsli's works in the rooms of the Villa Renata is accompanied by a publication. The carefully designed catalogue not only documents the exhibition "The Conference of Things" in the characteristic rooms of the Villa Renata, but also places Hänsli's works in relation to the texts that various authors have written especially for this publication.
