The Visitor, 2008
16:9 projection, 15 min, color, sound, loop
Ed. of 3

"The Visitor" was shot on location in Belfast in early 2008 and revisits some of Doherty's recurrent themes and preoccupations with place, landscape and memory. The camera moves between the trees of a small forest and scrutinises the surfaces of a block of flats.
"The Visitor" features an enigmatic figure whose intentions and orgins are unclear. The work is driven by a voiceover that speculats about the role and nature of the unnamed visitor. The new installation expands upon the cinematic tropes and narrative conventions that Doherty has deployed in recent works such as "Empty", 2006 and "Ghost Story", 2007.
