The displaced figures, bent by a heavy load on their shoulders, are an ever-recurring motif in Beatriz González' seminal group of works "Desplazamientos forzados y paisajes elementales". Based on images of refugees of the contemporary press, the respective scenes are repetitively processed by the artist within her paintings, drawings and serigraphies. By reducing the color and simplifying the form, the figures are transformed into an iconic symbol in the memory of the beholder.
